What is Holter monitoring?
Holter monitoring records your heart electrical activity continuously for 24-48 hours, providing a fuller rhythm profile than short in-office EKG snapshots.
Why might I need it?
It is useful when symptoms happen intermittently and may not appear during an office visit.
- Palpitations
- Irregular heartbeats
- Chest pain
- Shortness of breath
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Syncope (fainting)
What happens during testing?
Your provider places a lightweight portable monitor connected by leads. You wear it during regular daily activity so your care team can review rhythm changes over time. Event monitors may also be used for symptom-triggered recordings.
